Established in 1992, The International Medical University of Malaysia is a wholly owned subsidiary of Asia's largest private healthcare group IHH Healthcare, which is majority-owned by the Malaysian government's sovereign wealth fund, Khazanah. Granted university status in 1999, IMU was the first private higher education institution in Malaysia to confer academic degrees. The university specialises in medicine, health sciences and complementary medicine programs. It comprises of five (5) schools in the Faculty of Medicine and Health, offering pre-university, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuous learning programmes for healthcare.
