Rated as top in the UK for research in the latest Research Assessment Exercise whilst being consistently ranked as the UK’s top pharmacy school. The teaching faculty was graded excellent during the previous UK Quality Assurance Agency audit. In 2007 we received The Queen’s Award for Industry in Innovation. The pharmacy degree was the first course in Malaysia to be fully accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain/General Pharmaceutical Council (UK), a first, out of Europe. PhD degrees offered are on a full-time, part-time, and also on a 2+1 basis. Only Malaysian students may study Part-time. The 2+1 design gives you a chance to finish two parts of your degree in Malaysia and one part in the UK. The full-time PhD would usually take three years of research and another year for writing up. MPhil degree may be awarded after one year of study and another write-up period if you or the University decides that this is a more appropriate qualification. The MPhil and PhD degrees are based on research in the School of Pharmacy.
Pharmacology is the branch of biology concerned with the study of drug action where a drug can be broadly defined as any man-made, natural, or endogenous (from within body) molecule which exerts a biochemical or physiological effect on the cell, tissue, organ, or organism. Students will explore drug interactions in biological systems, the formulation and operation of clinical trials, as well as drug regulation and the marketing of pharmaceuticals.
