Through this course, you will have a fundamental scientific knowledge of environmental and ecological processes and systems. In addition to key principles, theories and current knowledge in environmental science, the modules offered will permit you to learn skills in the collection, processing and analysis of environmental data, and in scientific analysis and communication for the development and evaluation of policy. You will also undergo practical training in the techniques of environmental management. The course will allow you to study modules contributed by other Schools, including the School of Geography, as an add-on to those within the School of Biosciences.
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field that integrates physical, biological and information sciences (including ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, zoology, mineralogy, oceanology, limnology, soil science, geology, atmospheric science, and geodesy) to the study of the environment, and the solution of environmental problems. Related areas of study include environmental studies and environmental engineering. Environmental studies incorporates more of the social sciences for understanding human relationships, perceptions and policies towards the environment. Environmental engineering focuses on design and technology for improving environmental quality in every aspect.
